I have a couple of questions

    1.  Is there any way to  make a certain group the default?  I haven't been able to find a way.

    2.  Is there a way to do a mass change in the system?  The company has changed systems since they started using FAS.  The assets are set up with the Old System's account numbers & I need to change them to the new one.  There are over 5,300 assets in the system & I'm not looking forward to changing them individually.

Any help that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

Re: I have a couple of questions

     Hello LaDonna,

I've had to make mass changes several times. And in your case, what I would do is (in group view for all active assets) select all assets with the Select All button from the toolbar.Select Edit/Replace from the menu bar. In the Replace Box that pops up change G/L Asset Acct No from the old account number to the new account number (ignoring the ALL button). Do this for each account number you have to change.

A another more safer way to do this might be to create a group for each account number. And in group view for each account number's group, select all assets (for that group) and change G/L Asset Acct No to whatever the new account number is for that group using the ALL button.

    Hope this helps you.

     1. I am not sure what you meant by default, but your idea of using groups is the best way to go. If you are running depreciation, you can choose the group, although it is not the default. However, for any reports, you can make the group the default group by saving customized report with the group as the default group.

    2. To do a mass change, try using export data, make the change, them import the data.

     Hi Jay,

I am new to the FAS and wondered if you might have the exact steps in how to perform the extract and then the import. I was just wondering if anyone had actually done this and if it worked out well for them.  Thanks so much.

I do not have  a step by step instruction but if you go to the HELP menu, USer Guide and then go to Appendix F, there is the instruction for custom import.

Please let me know if you require additional information.
